LA Youth Food Project
The LA Youth Food Project is working to create a service-learning community garden at the Los Alamos Middle School. We’re in the beginning stages of development. Our overarching goal for this project is for the garden to be available at some level for K-12 LAPS students, community organizations, and individuals. We are working to provide a hands-on learning opportunity for LAPS students AND community members as well.
This is a very new project with a LOT of unknowns, BUT we encourage our community to take part in the planning and implementation process! Contact us if you have ideas or want to volunteer, and subscribe to our blog to stay updated on the project!

Community Multi-Purpose Teen Center Initiative
Members of the public and the Los Alamos Juvenile Justice Advisory Board met in the Airport Basin Training Room on May 19, 2010 to focus on a Community Multi-Purpose Teen Center Initiative.

JJAB Chair, Alan Kirk introduced the Initiative with an assurance that building a Multi-Purpose Teen Center Facility will demand patience and community support.
During the JJAB meeting, members of the public and Board members organized committees, defined tasks and scheduled further sub-committee meetings in order to fill out the Phase 1 Los Alamos County Capital Improvement Program Application.
Chair Kirk commented, “Working together, we will bring this initiative forward and hopefully get it approved. Kids need and deserve such a facility in this County. It's too bad that of all the communities in the 1st Judicial District, Los Alamos is the only community without a teen center.”
Three committees were formed during the meeting: Youth, Project Overview and Similar Benchmark Projects. Each committee is tasked to fill out certain portions of the CIP application. To become part of this initiative, contact JJAB at Kristine Coblentz .
